Abu Dhabi: Registration opens for World Robot Olympiad

ABU DHABI — The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) has officially opened the online registration for UAE students to qualify for the participation in the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) 2011.
The World Robot Olympiad brings together students from all over the world to participate in various robotic challenges and competitions that combine science, technology and education.
The event is being hosted by ADEC in Abu Dhabi for the first time.
The three-day event will begin on November 18 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
“We won the bid to host the WRO in 2011 mainly because of our commitment to providing students with world class digital education and our strategic education agenda for the students of ?Abu Dhabi.
We will welcome more than 1,500 students from 32 countries and look forward to a fun, intellectual and challenging competition,” said Dr Najla Al Naqbi, Programme Manager at ADEC.
According to the UAE council, students have to register by September 25 to represent the country in the event taking place in November in the country. The national qualification competition for the WRO kicks off in October with schools from across the country participating in a series of seven regional competitions being held throughout the Emirates.
The 2011 WRO registration process is available online for students from the elementary to university age groups at http://www.wrouae/uae/en/uae_registration for individual participants, private teams, schools and team coaches. Participating students must gain permission from parents or guardians and their schools.
