DHARWAD: In a bid to enable people to understand the tradition and practices of other religions, Jamat Islam Hind has organized Islamic Kannada book exhibition at Kadapa Maidan here. The exhibition, which began on Thursday, will be open for public till April 3.
Over 300 books published by Mangalore-based Shanthi Publications, besides books in English, Marathi, Hindi, Kannada and Urdu are on display.
Humanitarian Relief Society (a wing of Jamat Islam Hind-JIH) secretary Akbar Ali Udupi said emphasis has been given to display books for women and children which highlight the importance of moral values. “The tradition of the country is fast disappearing, thanks to the impact of western culture. We want to display literature that focuses on character-building on the principles of Quran,” he said.
Writer-activist Patil Puttappa inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of Murugha Mutt head Mallikarjunaswami, additional deputy commissioner C M Noormansur and Shanthi Prakashan manager Mohammad Kunhi.
A seminar on female foeticide will be held at the exhibition venue at 3.30 pm on March 27. Advocate Prafulla Nayak and JIM women’s wing president Kulsum Mohammad will speak.
Udupi said Humanitarian Relief Society is a socio-religious organization involved in community services. It has constructed nearly 214 houses in flood-hit north Karnataka last year.
