Sharjah musical festival attracts huge crowds

SHARJAH: The musical festival “Melodies from the World” kicked off to a grand launch at Al Qasba, the most popular family, leisure and cultural destination in the emirate of Sharjah, last Thursday.

The event seemed to be the cynosure of all eyes, as all the visitors to Al Qasba came together in huge crowds to view the programme.

Several cultural groups from the participating countries displayed their traditional performances in addition to musical pieces performed by solo instruments, such as the violin, flute and saxophone. The festival attracted performers from the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Egypt, India, Japan, Thailand, Spain, Italy, France, Greece, Scotland, Turkey, Brazil, the USA and Mexico.

The activities were highly received by the audience and the naughty chairs organized during the festival with audience participation added an element of fun and entertainment to all attendees.

The schedule of performances will run until 31st December, with daily musicals at Al Qasba’s outdoor theatre from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm. The closing day will see exciting fireworks that will lit up the skies of Al Qasba.

Al Qasba is considered as one of the most important tourism and leisure facilities in the emirate of Sharjah, in particular, and the UAE in general. The destination has become a popular tourist attraction following a series of successful events, as well as due to its rich tourism, cultural, art and business facilities. The number of people visiting Al Qasba totalled 553,910 between January and April 2011.
