A congress titled “The Role of Muslim Women in the 21th Century” is scheduled to be held on April 26 in Moscow.

The program will be attended by representatives from various provinces of Russia as well as a number of guests from some other countries.

Forming the Union of Muslim Women in Russia will be the main objective of arranging the congress. The union is tasked to clarify the role and status of Muslim women regarding the current political and social situation and defend the rights of Muslim women against cultural onslaught.

It will be held for the first time ever for Muslim women in Russia. It is noteworthy to mention that Russia hosted a similar congress in 1917, but organizing such programs had been banned in the country since soon after the Communists took over.

Taking into account the increasing number of Muslims in Russia at this juncture and the development of Islamic awareness among women, the need for clarification of the status and role of Muslim women would be essential for the society.
