The Navy will no longer use a target of a Muslim woman brandishing a gun at a SEAL training range after the image was met with harsh criticism.
The cardboard target depicts a woman wearing a hijab while standing in front of a verse from the Quran and aiming a gun.
It was used at a new training range for SEALs in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
But the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) asked the Pentagon to remove it after a picture of the controversial target was published by the Virginian-Pilot last Tuesday.
According to the newspaper, Nihad Awad, executive director of the Washington-based group, wrote a letter to to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta last Friday to condemn the target.
