Saudi kidnappers get 3,000 lashes each

lashesTwo Asian kidnappers, found guilty of kidnap in Saudi Arabia, have been sentenced to five years in jail and 3,000 lashes each by the District Court in Riyadh.

The two Asians admitted kidnapping a man and demanding a ransom from his family after the victim’s relatives reported the incident to the police, according to the Saudi Gazette.

In a separate case in Qatif, a bank robber has been sentenced to 15 years in jail and 4,000 lashes for wounding a police officer in a shootout.

The thief, along with two other men, carried out a raid on a government building in Qatif in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. The men escaped with three Saudi hostages but were tracked by police investigators after they used one of the hostages’ mobile phones.

The three men fired at police and wounded one officer before being apprehended. Other members of the gang were given 15 years in jail and a third eight years in addition to lashes ranging from 1,500 to 4,000, the newspaper said.
